Back to the future with this opulent Vintage Fortified . In the old days we would have called this wine a Vintage Port. This Bosworth incarnation is made using Touriga Nacional, one of the best known red varieties from Portugal where it plays a leading role in the production of vintage ports and increasingly, dry red wines. (We make a medium-bodied dry red as well)
Touriga has terrific structure and body and has great tannins and concentrated flavors of black fruit - perfect for making Vintage Fortified wines. We pick the Touriga flavour and sugar ripe and ferment it in open vessels. The wine is then fortified with fine brandy grape spirit to stop the fermentation process and elevate the alcohol up to about 19% alcohol.

Floral characters on the nose as well as blue fruits and bergamot. The wine has a very full, soft palate with integrated spirit. The palate has great length, and with heaps of flavour. A very Iberian style of port.

Vineyard Notes
The 2022 growing season was as close to ideal as you could wish for, with above-average winter and early spring rains, followed by a cool, dry summer. This led to a later-than-usual veraison and harvest, resulting in high-quality fruit across all varieties.

What a beauty! Our third vintage of this wine. Joch picked the Touriga when it was nice and ripe. The variety has terrific tannins and structure; perfect for a vintage port. Fermented in open vessels, the wine is then fortified with brandy grape spirit (which halts fermentation) and brings the alcohol up to about 19% Alc/ vol. The port then matures in big old oak barrels for about a year before being bottled. Should last for a good long while in bottle.
