Battle of Bosworth | Spring Seed Wine Co. | Springs Road Wines

Hi there

Isn't it about time we all had a win? We've had a few days of lovely weather here after what seems a deluge of winter rain when compared to the last couple of years (although now I hear it's been the driest July for a while, sigh) .

I was mulling over things while having a taste of the new Puritan Shiraz - (vintage 2020) and did the maths and realised that it is 25 years since Joch starting running our vineyards organically. It’s only taken me 6 months to wake up to the fact! It's not like we've had anything else to think about, right?

PS if you're tight for time, and can't read the rest of my War and Peace-like email, we are celebrating the 25 organic anniversary with a $20.00 voucher - use the code Gift20 when you check out. (We may even have a celebratory event or two later on in the year, COVID-depending.)

If you have time, read on for some salacious McLaren Vale wine gossip....

McLaren Vale's First Organic Wines
We produced McLaren Vale's very first organic wines, did you know that? Our first releases were the 2001 Battle of Bosworth Shiraz and 2001 Battle of Bosworth Cabernet Sauvignon. Some of you may even remember the Bozzy Rouge which was the Battle of Bosworth prototype. My, what a wine that was.

Joch began the conversion process in 1995 with a small block of some 25 acres of Chardonnay, Cabernet and Shiraz. Over the last quarter of a century he has converted all of our vineyards to organics, as well as our barley  paddock for making our pale ale.

Joch is very modest about his vision, but I like to think of him as an organic and sustainability trail blazer in McLaren Vale. Or, as UK Wine critic Matthew Jukes said way back in 2005, that Joch is regarded by his peers as an 'off the wall viticultural genius' which is lovely, although I know full well that's not the only thing they say about him.

New organic wine releases

To coincide with me remembering that we have been organic for 25 years, we have a raft of new releases for you to try; lots of lovely red wines for the wintry weather.
  • 2018 Battle of Bosworth Best of Vintage Joch's favourite barrels from his favourite blocks of (predominantly) Shiraz.
  • 2020 Battle of Bosworth Puritan - we've been making this young, fresh style with no added preservatives for 10 years now. It really is anniversary central here at BoB
  • 2018 Battle of Bosworth Shiraz (92 points James Suckling) the 18th vintage of this classic MV shiraz.
  • 2018 Spring Seed 'Cockscomb' Cabernet Sauvignon. Cab Sauv - the quiet achiever in McLaren Vale.
  • 2017 Battle of Bosworth White Boar Shiraz - cane cut and vine dried, our homage to Amarone. Rebecca from cellar door's favourite wine; she cuddles the bottle when talking to customers about it....
Use Gift20 at the checkout (for orders of 6 bottles or more) - our anniversary gift to you! The other gift is that shot of the younger Joch from 2004. Those ringlets were quite remarkable weren't they?

If you order 12 bottles or more you will get the 10% discount AND the $20 gift.

If you like our wines, why not tell your friends about us? You can tell them about the Gift20 code if you like, or just forward on this email on to them.  Maybe you can send this email onto a Victorian friend, god knows they need all the cheering up they can get right now.

That's all for now, cheers

Louise and Joch

PS I was lying about the salacious gossip, sorry
