Hi there

I hope you are well and that the border closures to the east haven't stymied your holiday travel plans. This second wave was promised I suppose, so here we are. The Queensland border has opened however, so I hear that they've put on extra flights into the Gold Coast! Or maybe you are heading west and making your way to Kangaroo Island?

Kangaroo Island
We are heading over to KI next week, and we will be packing our work clothes. Joch has the shed to clear out, it's a dog's dinner and I know that Roger who used to own the block (and who still runs his sheep on the property) despairs of it. No excuse now Bozzie, we have locked you in. The kids are going to do some de-suckering of the vines, too, but don't tell them, they don't know yet.

When did you last visit KI?
I know that many South Australians have memories of KI. I am not even from Australia but my memory of KI is of driving up to the north coast of the island, the colour of the sky, archways of trees on dirt roads and the smell of the ocean. I also remember it because I went on New Year's Eve after work (at Tatachilla cellar door, going back some time now) and flew over from Adelaide. It was the shortest flight I have ever been on. What are your memories of the island?

Springs Road Cellar Door

This is my newest favourite shot of the cellar door, taken from down by the Playford Highway looking up the hill. I am getting a big canvas of it printed and put on the the wall to cover up the electricity box! I have pretty much the same shot but taken during the height of summer. It's quite a contrast.
Come and visit us
If you are on the island, make sure you come and visit us here at Springs Road. You can find us off the main drag heading about 7kms west from Kingscote along the Playford Highway, opposite number 761. The entrance will bring you up the long driveway and you will see cellar door at the top, and will pass the vines on your left, masses of sheep and lambs and a heap of chooks. Watch out for the black and white rooster he's not the sharpest tool in the box and has no car sense at all.
Oscar Dog
Oscar is the best ever cellar door dog in the world, if you like your cellar door dogs to be comatose on the sofa for the entire time you are tasting wines. Sometimes he gets up and barks. His off-sider Tigger the giant tan dachshund will be over too, but we have to be a little careful with her as she is a chook chaser and has no self-control. Give them a pat when you are here. Tigger may well be chained up :)
Kangaroo Island from your armchair
If you can't make it back to the island this time,  you can still get a taste of our wines and the KI experience from our KI tasting pack. It includes a couple of bottles each of the Springs Road Shiraz/ Cabernet and a couple of the Springs Road Cabernet and one each of the Chardonnay and Shiraz. It's a great overview of the flavours of our vineyard, and KI, and is $200.00 delivered to your home (normal RRP is $225.00), Australia wide.

Let me know if you plan to visit our cellar door, and what your favourite memories of KI are;  if you mention this email to the girls at cellar door they might let you have our KI wine flight for free!

Cheers
